Food and shopping

You don't have to cook.

In the village there is Grisons cuisine, in the forest a sun terrace for hikers. And what you need to cook for yourself you'll find in Trin or a short drive away.

Eating out

  • Ustria Parlatsch

Grisons cuisine in the log house · sun terrace · in the middle of Trin Mulin

a few minutes on foot from the site, Via Cava 35

The log house in the middle of Trin Mulin, built in 1976 and renovated in 2017. Petra Kreilos and her team cook with selected Grisons produce; the capuns and Trin raviuls are homemade. From the sun terrace the view reaches the mountains.

    • The nearest restaurant to the site. Address Via Cava 35, 7016 Trin Mulin; the bus stop and the village shop are within walking distance.
    • You can reserve a table online via the house's website or by phone at +41 81 635 15 66.
    • Dogs are welcome in the restaurant until 6 p.m., not after. Pets are not allowed in the hotel rooms.
    • High chairs are available, a cot on request.
    • The kitchen makes packed lunches on request — handy for a day's hiking.
    • Free parking and Wi-Fi belong to the house.
    • There are also eight rooms: three double rooms with their own shower and WC, four with a bathroom on the floor, plus a single room.
    • The house is a member of the Guild of Swiss Restaurants.
    • In winter the cross-country ski trail starts right outside the door.

  • Restaurant Connfor families

Excursion restaurant in the Grosswald · large garden terrace · all year

about 45 minutes on foot from Trin Mulin, 3.5 kilometres

A forest clearing in the Grosswald between Trin and Flims, five minutes from the il Spir viewing platform. The finest destination for a hike with lunch — and the rare excursion restaurant that is open all year round.

    • On foot from Trin Mulin about 45 minutes, the same from Flims Waldhaus. The clearing lies 3.5 kilometres from the village.
    • House dishes: Trin pear ravioli, Grisons polenta with house sausage or with fried mushrooms.
    • Reservations by phone at +41 81 911 12 31, by email to info@conn.ch or online.
    • Dogs are welcome, families too.
    • For parties of 15 or more the house can be booked privately.
    • You can also get there by mountain bike. In winter, with enough snow, a cross-country trail is prepared.
    • A postbus runs from Flims Waldhaus via Flims Dorf to Restaurant Conn; line 111 does not take bicycles. Whether it is currently running is shown at PostAuto.
    • Between Flims Waldhaus and Conn a horse-drawn carriage also runs regularly; it departs right behind the post office. Information on the same number as the restaurant.
    • You cannot stay overnight at the restaurant. On the same clearing, however, stands the Holzerheim, a hay-barn hut of 60 square metres converted by the Flims architect Rudolf Olgiati, for up to four people.
    • Five minutes further on stands il Spir, 12.5 metres out over the rock edge and 360 metres above the Vorderrhein.

  • Pizza with usfor families

Pizza station on the site · self-service · any time · cash payment

    on the site

At the pizza station you make your own pizza whenever you like. No table, no reservation, no opening hours — you go when you're hungry.

    • The station is open to you for as long as you are with us.
    • Payment is in cash — card and TWINT don't work at the pizza station.
    • On good Saturdays we bake for everyone as well. Whether your Saturday is one of them depends on the weather and how full we are — ask at reception.
    • The ingredients you need you'll find at the Volg Trin Mulin, a few minutes away.
    • If you fancy a laid table instead: the Ustria Parlatsch is likewise a few minutes away in Trin Mulin.
  • Restaurant Crestasee

Art Nouveau house of 1890 by the lake · reachable only on foot · almost all year

a good 30 minutes on foot from the site

An Art Nouveau house right on the Crestasee, built in 1890, renovated in 2002 and partly listed. No car reaches the lake — you come on foot, and that is half the charm. Almost everything is cooked in-house, from the pizokels to dessert.

    • The whole Crestasee is car-free, the inn reachable only on foot. From car parks 4 and 5 it is about 20 minutes, from car park 3 about 30.
    • By postbus: the «Trin Mulin, Crestasee» stop, from there 10 to 15 minutes on foot.
    • Don't follow the navigation: Google Maps sends you via «Auas Sparsas», a private property with no through route. Stick to the house's own directions.
    • Terrace by the lake, covered; inside, the parlour seats 35.
    • For dinner a reservation is requested — preferably by phone or WhatsApp at +41 77 261 87 58. Emails the house likes less, by its own account.
    • The house is open almost all year. The tourist office still lists it as a summer business; we follow the house's own information.
    • Seven double rooms with a bathroom on the floor, plus a shared balcony and a library.
    • Pets are welcome, high chairs available, cot on request. The house is not wheelchair-accessible.
    • In winter car parks 3 to 5 are closed. Overnight guests contact the house beforehand, there is a solution.
    • Not to be confused with the nature bathing lake next door: bathing, kiosk, changing rooms and boat hire belong to a different business.

  • Ustria Trin Staziun

In the old station in the middle of the gorge · terrace · cash or TWINT only

Trin railway station, down in the Ruinaulta

The former station building of Trin, down in the Rhine Gorge on the hiking path between Trin and Tamins. Today it is run as the RealisierBar Trin Staziun: simple lunches, apéro, house drinks and homemade cakes.

    • The name has changed — the Ustria Trin Staziun has become the RealisierBar Trin Staziun. House and place are the same.
    • Payment is cash or TWINT only. Cards don't work; the house says so itself.
    • Down in the gorge there is no mobile reception. Reservations therefore go by email to allesistrealisierbar@gmail.com.
    • Trin station is not in the village but down by the Rhine — from the Trin Porclis bus stop about 45 minutes on foot down, and a good hour back up.
    • If you'd rather not climb back up after eating: by train to Reichenau-Tamins and from there by postbus to Trin Mulin.
    • The Rhaetian Railway stops right in front. By car there are few parking spaces; by bike it works too.
    • A few steps away the Punt Ruinaulta spans the Vorderrhein: 105 metres long, 1.8 metres wide, of wood.
    • Over on the Bonaduz bank lie a sandbank and a barbecue spot with firewood and a picnic table.
    • The tourist office still describes the house with polenta, soups, salads and ice cream and 25 indoor and 40 outdoor seats. Today's menu no longer lists it that way — rely on apéro, cakes and small bites.

Seven establishments across the municipality · from the village up to 1550 metres

spread across Trin Dorf, Trin Mulin, the forest and the gorge

    • Casa Alva in Trin Dorf: cooking in the old parsonage, two set menus, six double rooms.

    • Mountain restaurant Bargis, at 1550 metres: 54 seats inside, 100 outside, covered terrace and playground.

  • Flims and Tamins

Postbus line 81 · Flims 5 km, Chur 12 km · no changes

postbus from Trin Mulin, in both directions

A few minutes on the postbus, and the choice grows considerably larger — from the pizzeria to the hotel restaurant. The same line runs one way to Flims and Laax, the other way via Tamins to Chur.

    • Postbus line 81 runs from Trin Mulin without changing: towards Flims and Laax, or towards Tamins and Chur.
    • Flims lies 5 kilometres from Trin, Chur about 12; the ride to Chur takes about 25 minutes.

    • In Laax Murschetg, at the valley station in the rocksresort, several houses sit close together — handy if you go without a fixed plan.
    • The last bus back sets the limit for the evening. Find the timetable at PostAuto.
    • For those who'd rather stay put: the seven houses in Trin itself are listed in the entry above.

    • Address and phone: Via Resgia 6, 7016 Trin Mulin, 081 635 14 88.
