You can set off right at the tent.
Seven loops start here with us, from 50 minutes to a full day. Train and postbus take you to five more, plus the viewing platforms above the gorge. The return is often on the Rhätische Bahn — to Reichenau or Ilanz, then the postbus to Trin Mulin. The «Trin» station lies down in the gorge, an hour uphill from the site.

Punt da Pintrun Rundefor families

The shortest loop from the site. Via la Banna to Punt Suraua, over the Flem stream and through the Gudigniu plain to the old Punt da Pintrun bridge. Until the Oberländerstrasse was built between 1840 and 1858, this bridge carried the main route into the Surselva.
- Suitable for pushchairs.
- Follow the signposts: Trin Mulin – Punt Suraua – Gudigneu – Punt da Pintrun – Isla – Trin Mulin.
- A loop: you return to the village square in Trin Mulin, so no return trip by bus or train is needed.
- At Punt Suraua a fire pit, playground and WC lie along the way.
- A detour leads to the year-round inhabited hamlet of Pintrun. It branches off to the right into the sunken lane at the fountain before the bridge.
- The Pintrun power station has stood by the path since 1944.
- You can stop for a meal at the Ustria Parlatsch.

Crestasee Rundefor families

Across meadows, streams and through the forest to the Trin villagers' swimming lake and back again. The lake measures 375 by 180 metres and has drinking-water quality; a narrow path leads once around it.
- Suitable for pushchairs.
- Follow the signposts: Trin Mulin – Nigluz – Crestasee – Felsbach gorge – Fontaunas Freidas – Punt Suraua – Trin Mulin.
- A loop: the way back runs via the panoramic path and Punt Suraua to the village square in Trin Mulin. After the Chalet Marta, branch off to the right.
- Swimwear is worth packing — the Crestasee is the warmest lake in the area.
- There are fire pits at the Crestasee and at Punt Suraua.
- You can stop for a meal at the Restaurant Crestasee.
- The lake is listed among Grisons' protected natural monuments.
- Orchids bloom along the path; the Felsbach gorge lies right next to it.

Ruine Belmont

Up to the rock castle of the Barons of Belmont. The oldest parts likely date from the 10th or 11th century; the castle was inhabited until the 14th. Remains of the living quarters and the cistern survive.
- The alp path leads from Trin Mulin towards Bargis; where it meets the paved road from Fidaz, follow the signpost «Burg Belmont».
- The way back follows the same route: about 1:50 h up, about 1:20 h down.
- The ruin stands in the middle of the forest on a rock about 50 metres high.
- From the top the view stretches far across the valley.
- A head for heights is needed.
- Hiking boots are recommended: 609 metres of ascent and the same back down.
- Along the way lie the Crap da Nodas with the alp herders' carvings and the Punt Turnigla bridge with its potholes.
- There is a fire pit at the forest edge of Fidaz.

Across the meadows to the Crestasee, through the forest to Conn and back via the hamlet of Pintrun. On the Il Spir platform you stand 360 metres above the Vorderrhein.
- Suitable for pushchairs.
- A loop: the way back runs from Conn via the year-round inhabited hamlet of Pintrun to the village square in Trin Mulin.
- The platform is accessible all year; the loop is walkable from spring to autumn.
- In Conn you'll find Trin pear ravioli; the Ustria Parlatsch also lies along the way.
- A horse-drawn carriage runs from Conn back to Trin Mulin; it is booked 24 hours in advance.
- Those who've had enough at Conn take the line 111 bus to Flims Waldhaus and the postbus from there.
- A playground and fire pits lie along the way: at the Crestasee and at Punt Suraua.
- A detour leads into the Felsbach gorge.

Bargis-Hochebene

Up onto the plateau beneath the Flimserstein. At the top you can add the flat Bargis loop: 45 minutes, doable with a pushchair too.
- The old alp path leads from Trin Mulin through the forest; after 2:15 h you stand in Bargis.
- The way back follows the same route in 1:35 h — or take the mountain bus: line 118 between Bargis and Fidaz Waldrand, then the postbus from Flims Dorf to Trin Mulin.
- The Berghaus Bargis stands at 1552 m and has a covered terrace and a playground.
- The mountain road to Bargis is closed to private cars.
- Halfway along, the detour to the Belmont ruin is worthwhile.
- Along the way lie the Crap da Nodas and the Punt Turnigla bridge with its potholes.
- You can take a foot bath in the Aua da Mulins stream in Bargis.
- Suckler cows and livestock guardian dogs graze on the pastures. Stay calm and give them a wide berth.

Kleine Ruinaulta Tour

Via Pintrun down to the Rhine and straight through the gorge to Valendas. From the Ransun forest clearing it climbs steeply to the Isla Bella railway bridge, over the footbridge into the alder wood and along the bank.
- Follow the signposts: Trin Mulin – Pintrun – Ransun – Versam Station – Isla – Valendas Station.
- The route ends, as you prefer, at Valendas Station, in Castrisch or in Ilanz.
- Return by the Rhaetian Railway to Ilanz and from there by postbus to Trin Mulin.
- If you've had enough sooner, take the train back from Versam Station — better not to get off just at Trin Station: it lies down in the gorge, not in the village, and from there it is about an hour uphill to the site. More comfortable is the train to Reichenau-Tamins or Ilanz and from there the postbus to Trin Mulin.
- With the Ruinaulta ticket you can travel a whole day by train and postbus through the gorge.
- There is no path between Versam Station and Trin Station; the train covers this stretch.
- Sure-footedness is needed, and hiking boots are recommended.
- Fire pits lie in Ransun, Versam, Isla and Valendas; you can stop for a meal at Versam Station.
- The path is not open to bikes.

A stroll through the village out to Trin Quadris and up across terraced meadows. After about 20 minutes you reach the fire pit in a larch pasture wood. Right next to it lies a wetland with two ponds.

- Frogs live in the ponds. The wetland is not a swimming pond.
- A forest classroom stands by the wetland; it was built with the 2004 Binding Forest Prize. The wooden hut offers shelter from rain.

From the village square in Trin Digg the path leads down and across green meadows. At the foot of the Canaschal castle hill it continues via Platta to Tamins. The view stretches across Bonaduz and Rhäzüns into the Domleschg, ending at the confluence of the Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein at Reichenau.
- Signposted as Wanderland Route 85 «Senda Sursilvana».
- The whole Senda Sursilvana runs in 5 stages and 120 kilometres from Andermatt to Chur; this is one section.
- The Rhaetian Railway runs back from Reichenau-Tamins; between Reichenau-Tamins and Ilanz it operates hourly.

- No return trip needed: the hike ends in Trin Mulin, a few steps from the site.
- It's 3.2 kilometres to Conn, about an hour with children.
- The little stream crosses the footpaths at five points; you can shortcut at any crossing.
- Those wanting to stop at Conn take the line 111 bus to Flims Waldhaus.

- A loop: after about 2:20 h you reach Fidaz; the descent back to Trin Mulin takes about 1:10 h.
- Shortly after the milk cable car in Fidaz, the way back branches off to the right.

- The path to the first ruin begins opposite the Trin Quadris bus stop, to the left of the meat-drying house.
- The steep climb to the Hohentrins ruin is secured with ropes.
- From the paved road in Fidaz, follow the signpost «Burg Belmont»: after 2:40 h and 6.3 kilometres you're there.
- The way back follows the same route to Trin; the descent takes about 1:50 h.

A route entirely on foot also leads to the potholes. Through the village to Sursch, then up the shady old alp path to the Tegia Sut on the Alp Mora: 6.9 kilometres and about 1070 metres of ascent to get there. Across the alp pastures and finally on a footpath you reach the nearly twenty potholes with their turquoise water.
- The ascent takes about 3:45 h, the descent on the same path a further 2:35 h.
- The Tegia Sut lies at 1901 m, the potholes at about 2100 m.
- Just before the alp hut the path branches right towards Platt Alva; across the pastures it becomes a footpath.
- Those who don't want to walk down go in a good hour down to Purcs and take the Alp Mora bus there, which runs Wednesdays and Saturdays in high summer.
- Above the tree line the view opens onto the Signina group and the Piz Beverin.
- Bring enough water: there is no fountain along the way.

The pilgrim stage from Trin Digg to Falera. Via Pintrun it leads to Conn and the Il Spir platform, then steeply down into the Val da Mulin between rock walls 200 metres high. On the old pilgrim path you climb up to Laax to the 1503 St James's chapel.
- The Camino de Santiago Graubünden is signposted with the number 43 in both directions, this stage as 43.14. Heading west, the stylised scallop shell points towards Santiago.
- Return from Falera: postbus lines 81 and 411 connect Falera via Laax with Flims, and the postbus runs from Flims Dorf on to Trin Mulin.
- The whole route runs in 20 stages and 265 kilometres from the Val Müstair to Disentis.
- Sure-footedness is needed, and sturdy footwear is essential.
- You can cool off at the Laaxersee; the Ustria Lags stands there.
- You can also stop for a meal in Conn.

The whole gorge, from Ilanz to Reichenau. From Ilanz the path leads through floodplains of national significance along the Rhine to Castrisch and Valendas, beneath sandstone walls up to 300 metres high. From Trin Station you walk again, between the river and the railway line to the railway bridge at Farsch and on to Reichenau.
- Because of the terrain there is no path between Versam Station and Trin Station; you cover this stretch by Rhaetian Railway.
- The bus takes you back to Trin Mulin from Reichenau or Tamins. Don't get off at Trin Station: it lies down in the gorge, not in the village, and from there it is about an hour uphill to the site. More comfortable is the train to Reichenau-Tamins or Ilanz and from there the postbus to Trin Mulin.
- The Rhaetian Railway runs hourly between Reichenau-Tamins and Ilanz.
- With the Ruinaulta ticket you can travel through the gorge by train and postbus as often as you like for a whole day.

Flimserstein und Cassons

From Bargis the route climbs to the Fuorcla Raschaglius, over the Cassons ridge at 2674 metres, and back via the Flimserstein. Up top you walk airily along the ridge, the Tschingelhörner, the Vorab and the Segnas glacier ahead of you. Piz Dolf and Piz Segnas tower above at 3028 and 3098 metres.
- A round tour: the paved Scala Mora path brings you back to Bargis. It was hewn into the rock in 1867.
- The mountain bus runs back from Bargis: line 118 to Fidaz Waldrand, then the postbus from Flims Dorf on to Trin Mulin. On foot from Bargis to Fidaz Waldrand it's about 30 minutes.
- On the ridge, individual passages are secured with chains and marked with poles.
- Sure-footedness and hiking boots are needed, and a head for heights is recommended.
- A detour leads to the Kathedralen; this path is not marked.
- From the ridge the drop plunges almost vertically about 600 metres into the Bargistal.
- Along the way lie the Alp La Rusna at 1862 m and the Tegia Gronda at 2016 m.

- Down to the station: about 45 minutes on foot from the Trin Porclis bus stop.
- Best to go back to Reichenau-Tamins and from there by postbus to Trin Mulin. Trin Station lies down in the gorge, not in the village: from there it is about an hour uphill to the site. More comfortable is the train to Reichenau-Tamins or Ilanz and from there the postbus to Trin Mulin.
- There are only a few parking spaces at Trin Station; the train stops right there.
- From Trin Station, path 656.4 leads up to the Wackenau platform; from Bonaduz, path 656.7.

The most leisurely gorge hike: along the Rhine to Valendas-Sagogn station, back by train.
- Start is Versam station, destination is Valendas station; the Rhaetian Railway runs back from Valendas — to Ilanz or Reichenau-Tamins, then the postbus to Trin Mulin.
- Trin Station lies down in the gorge, not in the village: from there it is about an hour uphill to the site. It's more comfortable to go back by train to Reichenau-Tamins or Ilanz and from there by postbus to Trin Mulin.
- Because of the terrain there is no riverside path between Versam-Safien and Trin Station. The train covers this stretch.
- The train runs hourly between Reichenau-Tamins and Ilanz.
- Walkable all year round.
- The path alternates between wide and narrow; highest point 713 m, lowest 636 m.

Alp Mora bus from the Trin Porclis stop to Purcs
Around twenty potholes lie in the Val Maliens above the Alp Mora. In summer they are full of turquoise water.
- The Alp Mora lies at 1900 m, the potholes themselves at about 2100 m.
- The bus runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays in high summer and stops in Trin Porclis, Trin Dorf and Trin Quadris.
- The way back follows the same route to the Purcs stop.
- The uphill and downhill trips are booked separately; anyone without a seat on the last downhill trip walks down instead.
- Seats are limited and booked in advance. Tickets are not refunded.
- The bus does not take bikes; dogs travel for a fee paid to the driver. There is no room for pushchairs.
- The mountain road to the Alp Mora is closed to private cars.
- The last toilet is at the Purcs stop. Up top there is neither restaurant, fountain nor fire pit.
- Above the tree line the view opens onto the Piz Beverin and the Signina group.
- Camping is forbidden on the Alp Mora.

The Flims water trail runs downhill along the Flem stream, over seven bridges by the Grisons engineer Jürg Conzett. Waterfalls, mills and water slides lie along the way.
- Signposted as hiking route 764; the route is marked white-red-white, meaning a mountain hiking path.
- The path ends at the valley station in Flims; the postbus runs back to Trin Mulin from there.
- Uphill from the Flims valley station it is the same 8.6 kilometres in 4:30 h.
- In sections: waterfall–Segnes hut 20 min, Segnes hut–Punt Desch 45 min, Punt Desch–Punt da Max 1 h, Punt da Max–Punt Gronda 35 min, Punt Gronda–valley station 40 min.
- You can also join or leave the trail at Foppa, Runcs and Nagens Sura.
- Sure-footedness is needed, at times also a head for heights; sturdy shoes and rain protection are essential.
- With children, the Foppa–Startgels section is the easier choice.
- You can stop for a meal at the Segnes hut, in Startgels and in Foppa.
- Don't step into the streambed — the wet rocks are slippery. The path is not a bike trail.
- Only walk it when free of snow and ice.

postbus to Flims Dorf, shuttle to the Pinut stop, then a 30-minute approach
Switzerland's oldest via ferrata. First mentioned in writing in 1739, in its present form since 1907, reopened in 2007 after renovation. It crosses three almost vertical walls over 27 ladders and through a natural tunnel.
- The «Pinut» stop lies on the bus line towards Bargis.
- Descent from the Servetsch Pinut exit to Bargis: 2.7 km and about an hour. From Bargis to Fidaz a further 3.7 km and an hour, from Fidaz to Flims Dorf 2.2 km and 35 minutes.
- From Bargis and from Fidaz the bus also runs to Flims, and the postbus from there to Trin Mulin. Keep an eye on the last departure from the mountain.
- For those going further: Servetsch Pinut–Crap la Tgina on the Cassons 6.5 km and 2:45 h, from Cassons down to Flims Dorf 6 km and 3 hours.
- For children from age 12.
- Sure-footedness and a head for heights are needed.
- Helmet, harness and via ferrata set are mandatory; via ferrata gloves are recommended.
- You can rent the set in Flims or Laax.
- Long trousers, hiking boots and a rain jacket belong in the backpack.
- Don't start in a thunderstorm; the route is climbed at your own risk.
- A self-service kiosk stands at the Servetsch Pinut exit; the Berghaus Bargis and the Fidazerhof lie along the descent route.

The small loop from the schoolhouse in Versam: via Cresta to the old quarry, on via Islaplanggen to the Islabord platform and back. From the quarry you see the Versamer Tobel gorge with its old and new bridges. The way back leads through deciduous forest.
- Follow the signposts: Versam – Cresta – quarry – Islaplanggen – Islabord – Cresta – Versam.
- A loop: start and finish is the Versam schoolhouse, three minutes from the Versam Grosshus postbus stop.
- Instead of via Versam-Safien you can also come by postbus from Ilanz.
- Those who don't want to walk the steep little path downhill do the loop the other way round.
- Walkable all year round.
- From the Islabord platform the view opens into the gorge landscape.
- Highest point 934 m, lowest 797 m; fitness 2 of 6.
- The village has an inn, a café with takeaway, and a village shop.
- The church of Versam is worth a look.

Kathedralen ab Bargis

postbus to Flims Dorf, then shuttle to Bargis — or 30 minutes on foot from the forest edge in Fidaz
From Bargis the path leads across the plateau towards the Fuorcla Raschaglius. After a good hour you reach the Alp La Rusna at 1862 metres, then follow a stream uphill. At the end, two waterfalls about 100 metres high plunge from the rock face: the Kathedralen at 1895 metres.
- The mountain bus runs as line 118 between Fidaz Waldrand and Bargis; return by postbus from Flims Dorf to Trin Mulin.
- A loop: back on the same path, just before the first houses cross the bridge to the other side of the valley to the mountain lodge.
- About 20 metres before the La Rusna alp hut, the maintained alp path ends; the last stretch along the stream is pathless and unmarked.
- After about 1:15 h you pass a rock spire that looks like an eagle.
- The steep walls of the Flimserstein accompany the path, with Piz Dolf at 3028 and Piz Segnas at 3098 metres above.
- In a thunderstorm the streambed can quickly turn into a raging torrent.
- It can be slippery at the entrance to the Kathedralen.
- Suckler cows and livestock guardian dogs graze on the pastures. Stay calm and give them a wide berth.
- You can stop for a meal at the Berghaus Bargis at 1552 m; there is no official fire pit.
- Hiking boots are recommended.
- Walkable from spring to autumn.

The long panoramic trail with five eateries and a menu spread over five courses. From Falera it leads via Larnags and the Runcahöhe to Startgels, then down through the Trutg dil Flem to Foppa. The last 4.4 kilometres go via Fidaz.
- The sections: Falera–Larnags 4 km in 1:40 h, Larnags–Runcahöhe 5.2 km in 1:30 h, Runcahöhe–Startgels 3 km in 1:30 h, Startgels–Foppa 1.5 km in 30 min, Foppa–Fidaz 4.4 km in 1:10 h.
- There and back by postbus: lines 81 and 411 connect Falera, Laax, Flims and Fidaz. The postbus runs from Flims Dorf to Trin Mulin.
- From Foppa you can shortcut with the chairlift.
- Hiking boots are recommended.

Segnes Trek

Six days from Reichenau on the Rhine over the Segnespass to Flims. The route runs via the Ringelspitz hut, Bargis and the Martinsmad hut through the Tectonic Arena Sardona, the UNESCO World Heritage site. Four of five nights you sleep above 2000 metres.
- The Segnes Trek has no signage of its own: you follow the yellow signposts, and on the alpine sections the white-blue-white markings.
- Two stages are alpine hiking trails of grade T4, at times pathless, with scree and possible snowfields.
- The stages: Reichenau–Ringelspitz hut 11.3 km in 4:45 h, Ringelspitz hut–Bargis 13.7 km in 5:25 h, Bargis–Segnespass 15.3 km in 6:05 h, Segnespass–Martinsmad 6.4 km in 3:25 h, Martinsmad–lower Segnesboden 12 km in 4:25 h, lower Segnesboden–Flims 10.6 km in 3:00 h.
- The highest pass lies at 2760 m.
- To start, take the train to Reichenau; at the end, the postbus takes you from Flims back to Trin Mulin.
- The final stage follows the Trutg dil Flem water trail down into the valley.
- A compass, ice axe and crampons may be needed; the huts can advise on trail conditions.
- Overnight stays are at the Ringelspitz hut, the Berghaus Bargis, the Segnespass Mountain Lodge, the Martinsmad hut and the Segnes hut. The Berghaus Bargis is the only accommodation reachable by public transport.
- Along the way lie the glacier mills of the Alp Mora and the Tschingelhörner.

The civil engineer Walter Bieler built a spiralling structure over a natural knoll. At the top the view opens into the start of the Rhine Gorge.

- Back on the same path to Trin Station, where the train stops. Trin Station lies down in the gorge, not in the village: from there it is about an hour uphill to the site. More comfortable is the train to Reichenau-Tamins or Ilanz and from there the postbus to Trin Mulin.
- Down to the station: about 45 minutes on foot from the Trin Porclis bus stop.
- It lies on the main road between Bonaduz and Versam; there is little parking there.
- The tourist office lists the approach as path 656, the Rheinschlucht association as path 656.1.

The platform by architect Corinna Menn has stood over the gorge since 2006 and opens a 180-degree view into the Ruinaulta. «Il spir» is Romansh for the swift, the bird.

- In the summer half of the year, the line 111 bus also runs from Flims Waldhaus to Conn; it does not run on Restaurant Conn's rest days.
- Return on foot to Trin Mulin, or by bus to Flims Waldhaus and from there by postbus.

The larchwood platform lies a few minutes' walk outside Valendas. From there you look onto the spot where the Carrera stream flows into the Vorderrhein.

- In summer and autumn the Rheinschlucht bus, a convertible minibus on line 404, runs from Laax via Sagogn and Valendas to Versam, Bonaduz and Tamins.
- For the Rheinschlucht bus, reserve your seat at least an hour before departure; it does not take bikes or pushchairs.

- Open from May to November, depending on snow conditions.

On the first stretch of the panoramic path from Falera via Larnags to Laax Murschetg, the solar system stands along the wayside. The distances are built to a scale of 1 to 4 billion, the celestial bodies themselves at a scale of 1 to 2 billion. Along the way the view stretches far into the Rhine Gorge.
- The 1.5 kilometres correspond to the distance from the sun to Pluto, about 5.9 billion kilometres: every metre equals 4 million kilometres.
- Back to Falera on the same path — or continue on the panoramic path to Laax Murschetg. Postbus lines 81 and 411 run from Falera and Laax towards Flims.
- The path is well maintained.
